Actor
Devon played Jason's son in the pilot for 'A House Divided'
Working with Jason on 'A House Divided' was such an incredible experience. As a theater-based actor, the world of television was completely foreign to me, and Jason aided immensely in making that transition very easy. I looked forward to each new day on the set, not only because it was a lot of fun, but mainly because Jason is such a fun and encouraging person to be around. He was so supportive of me as a new actor in the industry and was continually giving me positive insight and direction.
I remember it was my second day of filming and there was this line I had to yell at my brother, it was some sort of remark about why he was going to be late for school, or something like that. Well, right before we started shooting Jason came up to me and suggested that I ad-lib this funny, mocking, real brother-like comment before I actually said the line. He said that I should just try it. So when it came time for me to say the line, I followed Jason's advice and inserted the ad-lib into the line. When the director said cut, he turned to me and said, "Devon, great ad-lib. I really liked that!" I turned to Jason, about to give him all the credit, but he jumped in before I could say anything. He told me to own it, let them think it was my idea. And that's just the kind of guy Jason is. Never one to take the glory for himself and continually giving all the other actors little gifts to make their performance shine.
Because I respect Jason so much as a person, it made the job of playing his son so incredibly easy. He was that father-like figure for me both on and off camera; someone I looked up to and never wanted to disappoint. I'm also a big fan of his work, so to share the screen with him is an amazing honor.
Jason and I still keep in contact and I look to him as one of my greatest role models, both as an actor and as a person.

Watch for Devon in the Showtime series 'Dexter' coming in November '06.
